Smith Victorious Over Clark

Samantha Peikes
Afternoon turned to evening as the Smith College Pioneers battled for the win against the Clark Cougars on the outdoor tennis courts at Smith.  Early day rain almost forced the match indoors but nature cooperated in the afternoon and the two teams went toe to toe for four hours.  Smith took an early 2-1 lead after doubles earning the number 1 and 3 doubles points.  In singles, Kelli Cheung was the first to add to the winning ledger for Smith followed closely by Samantha Peikes. At 4 points with one more needed to secure the win, Margaret Anne obliged by bringing in Smith's fifth and winning point.  The remain matches continued in compliance with the conference rule of playing to completion.  Seema Samawi fought tooth and nail to earn yet another point for Smith bringing the final total to 6-3 for the Pioneers.
(This match was dedicated to Sam's good friend, Dianna, who died this past week)
